This interactive webinar with Dr Jeremy Hayllar, Clinical Director, Alcohol and Drug Service, Metro North Mental Health, will focus on drugs of addiction and the management of withdrawal with particular attention to the needs of rural doctors. The webinar’s learning objectives are:
- Understanding the key features of dependence, as listed in DSM 5.
- Recognising the appropriateness of acute withdrawal management vs gradual withdrawal management vs pharmacotherapy maintenance treatment in the management of substance use disorders
- Achieving familiarity with the key medications used in withdrawal management, maintenance pharmacotherapy or in maintaining abstinence – ie diazepam, thiamine, methadone, buprenorphine, nicotine, naltrexone and acamprosate.
- Recognising the risk of withdrawal related complications and when to seek specialist advice while looking after a patient undergoing withdrawal.
Open to all health professionals and with a rural and remote focus this will be a Q&A webinar with Dr Jeremey Hayllar.
